UHS PGET 2026 on 25 October: What Punjab Residency Applicants Need to Know

The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, will conduct the Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) 2026 on Sunday 25 October 2026. The test is the gateway to Level III postgraduate medical and dental programmes (MD, MS, MDS and FCPS) in Punjab's public-sector institutions under the Central Induction Policy, for the January 2027 intake. With admit cards due from 15 October, here is what applicants need to have in order.

The schedule

• Online registration opened on 23 August 2026 and closed on 22 September 2026.
• Admittance cards and roll-number slips are issued from 15 October 2026 through the UHS portal.
• The test is on 25 October 2026, held simultaneously in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi. The city and specialty chosen at registration cannot be changed afterwards.
• UHS has said PGET will now be held twice a year, in March/April and September/October.

Who was eligible

The UHS notice required an MBBS or BDS from a PM&DC-recognised institution, a completed one-year house job in a PM&DC-recognised hospital, valid permanent PM&DC registration, Punjab domicile for open-merit and disability-quota seats, and age under 40 on the last date of application. Foreign candidates needed an NOC or study visa from the Ministry of Interior or their home department. The processing fee was Rs 10,000, non-refundable.

The paper

• Paper I (10:00 to 12:00): 100 MCQs on basic sciences drawn from the MBBS or BDS curricula, with separate papers for medical and dental candidates.
• Paper II (13:00 to 15:00): 100 MCQs specific to the chosen specialty group.
• Specialty groups for MBBS graduates include Medicine and Allied, Surgery and Allied (two groups), Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric Medicine, Anaesthesia, Radiology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT and Pathology; for BDS graduates, Prosthodontics, Operative Dentistry, Periodontology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics.
• The Table of Specifications was notified by the UHS Controller of Examinations on 7 September 2026 after approval by the Advanced Studies and Research Board, and is on the UHS website.

Passing and merit

Passing PGET is mandatory for induction, and the minimum passing score is the 75th percentile. Passing does not by itself confer a seat: admission remains subject to eligibility, merit, seat availability and the Central Induction Policy, and PGET marks carry 75 per cent weightage in the admission merit.

What to do in the next two weeks

1. Download the admit card on 15 October and check your name, specialty group and test city. Queries go to pget@uhs.edu.pk or the helpline 042-111-333-366.
2. Practise the two-paper day. A basic-sciences paper in the morning and a specialty paper after lunch is a different rhythm from a single long exam. Rehearse it once, timed.
3. Revise to the Table of Specifications, not to a textbook's contents page. Paper II is specialty-specific and the ToS says what it samples.
4. Plan the journey. Four cities only; candidates from elsewhere in Punjab should arrive the day before.

What this means for candidates

PGET decides where, and whether, you start residency in January 2027, and its percentile rule means you are competing against the field, not a fixed score. Two questions applicants ask

Can I change my test city or specialty? No. The UHS notice says the test city and specialty chosen at registration cannot be changed after the final submission of the application. Check both on the admit card and raise any error with UHS immediately, not on the day.

I missed the 22 September deadline. When is the next PGET? UHS has said the test will now be held twice a year, in March/April and September/October, so the next opportunity is expected in spring 2027 for the July 2027 intake. Watch the UHS website for the notice.
